Garment Care and Liability Policy

How we handle your garments
Every item we receive is inspected, tagged, and logged. We check care labels, empty pockets, and note visible stains, damage, and wear before cleaning begins. Garments are cleaned using methods appropriate to their fiber content, construction, and care-label instructions, then finished and inspected again before packaging.
Stain removal - what we can and cannot promise
We treat stains individually, starting with the safest effective method for the fabric. Many stains come out completely. However, no dry cleaner can guarantee removal of every stain. Factors outside our control include:
- The age of the stain and whether heat (a dryer or iron) has already set it.
- Prior home treatment with products that react with fabric or dye.
- Stains that have chemically bonded with or bleached the dye itself.
- Invisible substances (like sugar residues) that only appear after cleaning.
If a stain is unlikely to come out or its treatment risks damaging the garment, we will tell you before proceeding and let you decide.
Inherent risks in some garments
Certain garments carry inherent risks even with correct professional care, including: sequins, beads, and glued embellishments; printed or bonded designs; aged or sun-weakened fabric; interior coatings and laminates that can fail with age; leather, suede, and fur trims; and items with missing or inaccurate care labels. Where we identify such a risk we will flag it to you; cleaning proceeds at your instruction, and we cannot accept liability for damage caused by inherent weaknesses or manufacturer defects in these cases.
Care labels
We follow manufacturer care labels. If a garment has no care label, or you ask us to clean contrary to the label, we will use our best professional judgment, but cleaning is then at your risk.
Pockets and personal items
Please empty pockets before drop-off or pickup. We check pockets as part of inspection, but we cannot be responsible for damage caused by items left in garments (pens, lipstick, gum) or for the loss of small items left in clothing.
If an item is damaged or lost in our care
- Report the issue as soon as possible, ideally within 48 hours of pickup or delivery.
- We will investigate promptly and honestly - including reviewing our inspection notes.
- Where we are responsible, we will offer a fair remedy: repair, re-cleaning, or compensation based on the garment's fair market (depreciated) value, consistent with industry practice, not its original purchase price.
- Compensation for any single item is limited to a multiple of the cleaning charge or the garment's fair market value as documented; high-value items should be declared before cleaning so we can agree on handling.
Nothing in this policy limits rights you may have under applicable Illinois consumer law.
High-value and heirloom items
Please tell us in advance about unusually valuable garments (couture, heirloom pieces, wedding gowns). We may recommend specific handling, document the item's condition with you, and agree on its declared value before work begins.
